Important tips on how to choose your workout socks

Updated: Mar 4, 2021

We usually don't think too much about a pair of socks and just buy what's on sale but in fact socks are a very important part of a successful outdoor workout, choosing the right pair of socks can make a huge difference at your final results so I'm going to give a few tips to help choosing your next pair. First of all you need to think about comfort, some socks have more compression and will hold more to your feet, some will be more loose allowing to move your toes inside; some are thin and some thick, some will absorb more the sweat and keep your feet dry...there are quite a few range of options and it's hard to decide what can work better for us. After trying many different brands and styles I personally like the Feetures Ultra Light for the summer as they are thin, have nice compression in some specific areas and keep feet cool and dry avoiding blisters; the Balega Hidden comfort are my favourite for the winter because they are thick, giving a nice cushion and keeping feet warm at the bottom but at the top they are thin and provide good ventilation keeping feet dry; but if your feet sweats too much Swiftwick might be a better choice, they are thin and feels like wearing no socks but they still keep your feet cool and dry. There are also some good socks for wearing all day long that will give relief for some specific problems, I absolutely adore the Bunion Relief socks because I have bunions and they sometimes hurt, that socks have the big toe separated from the others and a special pad around the bunion area that really helps, the Plantar Faciitis socks will target areas to support the Achilles and lift the Plantar Fascia providing great pain relief, the compression calf sleeves and tall socks have a gentle compression that helps muscle recovery after exercise, they also reduce swelling and discomfort during long periods of sitting. I usually wear the compression calf after a long run to recover my calf muscles and the tall compression socks I always wear on long flights to avoid blood clogs, I have friends that wear compression socks during a long run as well, but I personally don't like to run with them.
